Potty Training in my house is a team effort; it is a rite of passage and always an event because we love to celebrate. Zaniel’s journey is no different. I’ll keep it all the way real and tell you that I tried to potty train Zaniel last year and it was a complete and utter failure. In fact, I failed miserably now that I look back on it I was putting way too much pressure on myself and him at the time, I was trying to keep up with the Joneses when I should’ve just stayed in my lane.
This go round we are both ready, I have realistic expectations, and he’s excited about the journey. Oh and we all have roles in this production. Zaniel is the Talent, Vayda is the Sticker Giver, Zion is Security because “Riracy” or Privacy is a big deal in my house, Daddy is the dedicated Hand Washer, and I, of course, am the Executive Producer I make sure the entire production plays out beautifully.
When Zan goes to the potty it is his job as the Talent to deliver, poop, pee or just a darn good effort, either way, it’s his job to make it happen. He uses Pull-Ups® Learning Designs® to ensure that he gets his job done efficiently. The Underwear-like design reminds him that he’s a big boy and that he can pull them up and pull them down with ease which is perfect for days that he goes to daycare. He also knows that the Design fades if he has a potty accident, so he’s extra careful to keep his favorite character with him.
To get the entire family excited about the journey we made a trip to Sam’s Club where I can always find our household essentials including food, clothes and of course Pull-Ups. On days when I’m too lazy to go in, or my kids are going crazy I just use the Sam’s Club pick up service which is a lifesaver.
Also to mark this special occasion I made Zaniel a special “potty stool” to assist with him climbing on the potty and also so that he knows that this whole production is a big deal.
“Potty Stool” Instructions
What You’ll Need
Newspaper
Spray Paint
Wooden unpainted stool
Wood Glue
Pencil
Lettered Stickers
Tape
Wooden Character Cut Outs
Table/Surface to spray paint on
Instructions
Tape newspaper to the surface of whatever you choose to spray paint on.
Set your stool on the newspapered surface and lightly coat it with spray paint. I used a 10-minute dry spray paint that’s super easy to use.
Wait 10-15 minutes and flip the stool over and spray paint the other side.
Sit the stool up and draw a straight line across the length of the stool.
Gently place stickers spelling your child’s name across the stool using a pencil to measure in between each letter.
Add wood glue to the back of the wooden characters and place them on the stool.
Voila! You have a specially made potty stool.
