About Me

Welcome to Mommy’s Dressing Room,

I’m Tata. I’m a fun loving, Chicagoland blogger, homeschool mom, and beginner homesteader raising six kids ages 1, 2, 4, 11, 12, and 14 alongside my husband. I affectionately call him Brown Sugar because he’s so damn sweet.

I started this blog back in 2015 to carve out an identity outside of being a military wife, and I genuinely loved the journey of creating my own path. I took a break and stepped away because -life. Now I’m back with three extra babies in tow.

A lot has changed since my break. Our family of eight is deep in what I lovingly call the Four H Life: Homeschooling, Homebirthing, Homesteading, and Homemaking. We’re in the early days of starting our own small family farm, raising chickens and growing our own food.

Homeschooling became my unexpected passion. It’s brought our family closer than I ever imagined and given our kids real room to discover their strengths, their weaknesses, and the things they love (and don’t). My three oldest are already deep into trade school programs studying electrical and HVAC — while learning life skills like personal finance, staying active in gymnastics and basketball, and exploring their curiosity at every opportunity. People started noticing what we were doing, and little by little I’ve become a go-to voice for families wondering if homeschooling vs. traditional school might be the right move for them too.

Homebirthing found me the hard way. My oldest three were all born in hospitals, and every single experience was terrible in its own way. By the time my last three babies came, I chose to birth them at home in water and it was hands-down some of the most beautiful, spiritual, sacred moments of my entire life. I truly wish every woman could have that experience. My family witnessed life come into this world! That kind of thing changes you. I’m now a proud advocate for home birth and a trusted resource for moms weighing hospital vs. home. I’ve also breastfed all six of my kids, and I love sharing everything I’ve learned along the way.

MORE ABOUT ME

I have a degree in Journalism with a Concentration in Advertising and Integrated Marketing Communications, and a minor in Psychology. That’s a mouthful but I’m real proud of that, so go back and read that part again.

Mommy’s Dressing Room captures it all: family travel, homemaking, my favorite fashions, natural remedies, the never-ending parenting adventure, and now homestead life. I occasionally drop some relationship and dating wisdom too, and my articles have been featured multiple times on Digital Romance Inc. and BlogHer.

I believe in miracles, and I’ve been blessed enough to be on the receiving end of more than a few.

When I’m not homeschooling, nursing a baby, or chasing a toddler, you can find me buried in a good book, traveling somewhere near or far, or sparking a conversation that actually matters. My favorite thing in the whole world is meeting new people, exchanging perspectives and life experiences is priceless to me.

So welcome, and come on in. Join me in Mommy’s Dressing Room — it’s gonna be fun.
