Recently I saw a mom celebrate taking her kids to 56 swim lessons- no Ma’am!!! That will never be me! “I want a tight car because I run a tight ship” Iykyk. We are all about about efficiency over here, having 6 kids does not allow that kind of tomfoolery around here. Having years and years of swim lessons is not my idea of efficiency or practicality honestly.
I remember when I decided that my kids would learn to swim immediately. We have an indoor pool and I’ve always felt that having an indoor pool and having kids that did not know how to swim was quite ghetto fabulous and I was tired of being ghetto fabulous.
After having that nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach for several weeks I woke up one day and declared to my husband that my kids were going to learn how to swim and it wasn’t going to take weeks or months either. He looked at me like that Waka Flocka meme because it was a completely unprovoked declaration and because he thought that it was impossible for them to learn to swim in the time frame I declared.

I set about searching high and low for reputable companies with good reviews that would send an instructor to my home which was tricky because I needed to feel comfortable with that person coming to my house. I finally found Sunsational swim school, and the icing on the cake was that they had a Learn to Swim guaranteed. It guaranteed that with a minimum of 12 lessons children ages 3 and up would learn how to swim. After reading as many independent reviews as I could I called them up, asked a few questions and proceeded with the process. The process requires you to input your swim instructor preferences and then they select the swim instructor that they think would be a good fit. They send you their picture and profile and you decide if you want to proceed with that particular instructor. You’re not obligated to accept the first instructor or even the second. I’m not sure if my situation is unique or not but the first instructor they selected for us was the perfect match. She had tons of experience and she was firm and strict just like me. I didn’t want a male instructor and I thought that’s what they were going to do first but I got lucky.
When I first booked the lessons I spread them over the course of a few weeks so I was banking on my kids learning how to swim in a little over a month. After their first two lessons we learned that we suddenly had to go out of town in two weeks and I was in panic mode. I did not want the progress that they had to reverse because we had to go out of town. I spoke with the swim instructor and asked her how insane it would be to double up on their lessons and condense them within the next 10 days. I knew it was an absolute stretch and I expected her to tell me that it was not possible. Surprisingly, she said that if both our schedules aligned then we could do it! I was so happy. My kids were making so much progress in such a short period of time so I was hopeful, plus I had that Learn to Swim Guarantee in my back pocket if it didn’t work out.
The instructor came to my house for 10 days back to back and on some days she doubled the lesson to teach all three of my older kids how to swim. During the process we quickly learned that they could not do their lessons together because they were all eager to swim and it sometimes distracted the other person so we separated their lessons.
As time began counting down I was nervous but excited. They started practicing on their own after their lessons and I watched them like a hawk every step of the way. When it came down to day 10 they each had their swim test and they all did soooo good. They all passed! I felt like I was flying and for some reason I felt like I had done the impossible. I had turned 1 years worth of swim lessons for three kids in to an accelerated course in just 10 days. Not gonna lie, I felt like mama of the year that summer.
When we went out of town I was poolside watching my lil black kids swimming all over the pool with no floaties or life jackets and I was beaming with pride.
That’s the story of how my kids learned how to swim in just 10 days. Oh and if you’re wondering this is not a paid ad, just a truly amazing experience I wanted to share so I get no incentive for writing this.

Hey hey hey!! Question for ya! If I don’t have a home pool will the instructor come to a public pool?
Yes! They absolutely will. They can meet at any local public pool you choose.
