This past weekend we took a much-anticipated road trip to Washington DC for the very first time. We were all extremely excited and I admittedly was slightly more excited than everyone else because I’ve been craving a big city! I knew I wanted us to stay in a location that was central to everything and also spacious enough to accommodate our party of 5 so I decided on the Avenue Suites Georgetown, oh and did I mention that the Avenue Suites offers a military discount?! Winning!
I couldn’t have picked a better hotel because the location was amazing, we were only a 10-minute walk from the White House and it was really “just” a 10-minute walk because the White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania and Avenue Suites is located at 2500 Pennsylvania Avenue. Not only is Avenue Suites neighbor to the President but the Metro is just 4 blocks away.
Avenue Suites had a contemporary feel with portraits of actors and actresses found in the hotel lobby and our hotel suite.
The hotel is located in a walking neighborhood near bars and restaurants and a Trader Joes is directly across the street in case you want to whip up something in the kitchen.
The Avenue Suites was a perfect mesh of modern, comfortable and sophisticated, which suits both myself and my family.
Our 1 bedroom suite included a living area, dining area, and a very spacious kitchen NOT just a kitchenette but a full-blown kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator and stove and a sink and plenty of cabinetry.
The furniture was really nice and the décor was definitely my taste. The bathroom lighting was perfect for photos and you know how important lighting is for good photos.
My kids loved the city view, it was a really big difference from just seeing turkeys and deer every day.
The Wi-Fi was free and that is huge for us because we use a lot of Ipads and laptops, also if you’re into coffee and such they have Keurigs in the kitchen.
Even though I’m not “that” fit I did appreciate that a 24-hour gym was available in case I decided to make a lifestyle change. I didn’t.
They also offered complimentary yoga classes on the patio.
In the evening the bar and patio get pretty live and I really wanted to join the party but I was way too beat from walking all day but I was able to sneak in pictures on the patio the next day with the Beyoncé fan.
The Avenue Suites was a great choice for our weekend getaway to DC and I’m sure we’ll come back again for an extended stay. If you want to see my Facebook Live Video tour of our room click here.
