I love when I walk in a store and I ask if they offer a military discount and they say yes! My heart leaps with joy EVERY SINGLE TIME. Sometimes I’ll ask even though I know they do just to feel that little leap. What I love more than that is resources or programs that military service members and their family qualify for that they sometimes may not realize. Below is a list of such programs or resources that service members and their families qualify for but may not know it. I’ll be sure to annotate the ones I’ve used. Please feel free to let me know about any other resources that you know of so that I may add them to the list.
If you aren’t using AFCV you are truly missing out. We first used AFVC when we flew to the mainland to buy our home back in February. We stayed at the Diamond Resort in Williamsburg and it was lovely. Brown Sugar was skeptical because of the ridiculously low price of $299 for a weeks stay; he also hadn’t known anyone to use the program so I took the reigns on setting everything up. For 2 weeks we stayed in a beautifully decorated very clean and spacious condo that had room enough to sleep 8 people. A washer and dryer was included as well as a fully equipped kitchen and a gas fireplace. The AFVC offers resort as well as hotel accommodations across the world, many at the price of $299 per week. Did you hear me I said $299 PER WEEK! Sometimes they even have buy one weeks vacation and get another free if that ain’t a deal I don’t know what is. I would vacation every single month if I could.
The day before my blog launched my computer crashed-Les Brown would call that Murphy’s Law. So a few weeks ago I scurried over to Best Buy for a new one. I was just about to buy the Microsoft Office program when an amazing employee told me that since we’re military we could buy the entire office program for $10. I admit I thought he was mistaken but sure enough when I got home I went to home use program put in my husbands work email and there was the entire office setup for only $10. It normally costs around $150. Just keep in mind you can only use the discount once.
MYCAA is a career development and career assistance program. MYCAA helps military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications or Associate’s Degrees. They offer assistance up to $4000 for your career of choice along with other benefits. The most important eligibility requirement for MYCAA is that you must be the spouse of an active duty service member whose pay grade E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, or O-1 to O-2. I’m in the process of starting this program but I know plenty of people who have successfully used it or are using it now.
Please let me know of any other beneficial programs of resources that should be added to the list.
