The best compliments I’ve ever received are along the lines of “You don’t even look like you’ve had three kids.” Tell me that, and I will kiss you, just kidding but I will be eternally grateful. After having kids back to back, I was caught up in a whirlwind of trying to manage motherhood and “MeDome” that’s what I call being, feeling and looking like my best self. I won’t lie it was pretty difficult, and many times I’ve struggled, but I’ve finally found 5 things that help me balance my “MeDome.”
1. Wear Lipstick
Anytime I wear lipstick I get an instant perk up. I feel like my old self again and that carries me through my day. Wearing lipstick reminds me that I’m a lady and I love how I feel when I wear it.
2. Take Your Clothes Out the Night Before
Mornings are hectic, and from my experience, I’ve learned that if I don’t prepare the night before then, I’ll probably walk out the house looking like an extra in the Walking Dead. So take it from me, just like you pick your kid’s clothes out in advance do yourself a favor and get your clothes out.
3. Get Some Sleep
This is an oxymoron-Mom’s don’t sleep but get what you can. Do something simple like go to bed at least one hour after you put the kids down. You’ll feel refreshed and be able to accomplish more in the mornings. When I started doing this, I didn’t drag in the mornings, and I stopped dreading the mornings. I try to be as efficient as possible by cleaning up throughout the day and preplanning. This has helped me tons.
4. Wear Bright Colors
I absolutely love wearing black, for one it’s easy, and I feel good in it, but when I wear bright colors, I tend to put more effort into my look and I’m always pleased with the outcome. Wearing bright colors also gives you the opportunity to play with different accessories and shoes.
5. Dress Up For No Reason At All
Since I work from home, my wardrobe is pretty chill Monday through Friday, but come the weekend I get it popping. Even if I have nowhere to go, I get completely dressed up just because and to remind myself just how pretty I am.
6. Take Care of Your Face
Your face is your most important physical attribute, so you should do what you can to take care of it. In high school and middle school, I suffered horribly from acne. I thought it would never end and I swear I had the worst breakouts right before big events. I still have an envelope of photos from 8th grade that I never gave out because I had a pimple spawn on my nose. Teenage years, good times good times.
Now that I’m an adult and breakouts aren’t happening from hormones I’ve noticed that makeup can sometimes be the source so I’ve stepped up my routine to do as much as I can to avoid breakouts period. I’ve learned the hard way that just wiping my makeup off before bed isn’t enough. I’ve been using the Remington Facial Cleansing Brush from Walmart to get makeup and dirt deep down that my regular makeup removal routine won’t do. The Remington Facial Cleansing Brush is 10x more effective than manual brushing or my halfhearted attempt at cleansing my skin. I just swipe a little of my favorite organic facial soap on my already wet face and let the magic happen.
One of my favorite things about this magical brush is that it’s rechargeable, I can tell you right now that if I was in the middle of washing my face and the batteries died, I’d probably go right back to my trifling ways. It also has a cute little beauty bag that’s perfect for when I travel.
You can find the Remington Facial Cleansing Brush at Walmart and Walmart online. I can’t tell you how to find your pre-mom sexy or your “MeDome” but if you follow these steps I’m sure you’ll be one step closer. I may be a mom, but I sure don’t look like one.
